2008 - a very special year for Merseyside

This year our region's capital city, Liverpool, celebrates its reign as European Capital of Culture. The city will be the focus of worldwide attention with activities taking place in all spheres of the arts throughout the year. These will not be confined to the city of Liverpool, but spread through the Merseyside region, including Southport's own Borough of Sefton. Southport is well known for its very active jazz scene, and particularly for being the venue for not one but two annual jazz festivals.

The Southport Jazz Season will run from the 1st of February to the 1st of June 2008, linking Southport Melodic Jazz Club's "Jazz On A Winter's Weekend" festival and the Southport International Jazz Festival. During the Southport Jazz Season, there will be a jazz concert every week in the town.
